General Description

Off white, odourless fine powder.

A non-ionic cellulose ether produced by the reaction of propylene oxide with cellulose.

Soluble in a wide range of solvents. Extremely versatile and stable product used primarily in paper and leather conservation.

Instructions For Use

Most soluble polymers have a tendency to agglomerate, or lump, when the dry powder is first wet with solvents. The following procedures will help to give best results: Prepare a slurry by adding the pre-weighed Klucel powder to 6 times (or more) its weight of well-agitated water at a temperature of 50 - 60º C. Take care to keep within these temperatures. The slurry should be allowed to stir for a few minutes before adding the main volume of cold water. Agitation is continued until all particles are dissolved and the solution is clear.

Add Klucel to the vortex of well-agitated water (or suitable solvent) at room temperature. The rate of addition must be slow enough to permit particles to separate. The temperature should remain below 35º C. This will take longer than the above method.

Technical Information

Soluble in water below 38º C. Also soluble in polar organic solvents such as: methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and Industrial Methylated Spirits.

Insoluble in water above 45º C. Also insoluble in toluene, xylene and trichloroethylene.
